Examining the Seed Layers
Jeff Pigati, a geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey, picks at one of the sedimentary layers in the trench to more closely examine the seeds found in the layer.
Small black seeds were commonly found near the human footprints found at the excavation site. These seeds were helpful to researchers in determining a timeline using radiocarbon dating techniques.
