FY11 Intiate Emergency Stabilization of Historic Taylor-Medley General Store

The object of this project is to initiate emergency stabilization at the Taylor-Medley General Store in the Rush Historic District of Buffalo National River. Initially temporary shoring will be placed to prevent the structure from immediate collapse. A team of Historic Architects, Engineers and Preservation Specialists will be assembled or contracted to perform an onsite survey and produce plans, drawings and estimates for the stabilization and final restoration of the structure. After the plans are produced structural stabilization efforts will be implemented as per the design. Encroaching soils and vegetation will be removed and drainage improvements completed. Additional funding will be pursued to accomplish the final restoration of the structure at a future date. This emergency stabilization work must be performed no later than FY11 to prevent further deterioration and the inevitable collapse of this historic structure. The stabilization work will be accomplished using National Park Service day labor crews. The onsite survey, plans drawings and estimates may be contracted if National Park Service staff is not readily available. Supplies and materials will be procured through MABO contracting office.
