White paper with typed black text
December 2, 1932
Mrs. M. Mack, 21st and C. Streets, N. W.,
Washington, D.C.
Dear Madam:
Letter dated December 1, 1932, from Mr. Frederic J. Haskin to the Custodian of the Gettysburg National Cemetery has been referred to this office for reply.
The North Carolina Monument stands on a spot occupied by some of the troops in the battle of Gettysburg. While this site is not the place at which the majority of the troops from that state took part in the battle it does represent the scene of action of some of the North Carolina troops. The site was selected by a monument commission from the State of North Carolina and approved by the Assistant Secretary of War.
Very truly yours,
James B. Aumen,
Asst. Superintendent
