Iŋyaŋ Ocaje - Bedrock

Iŋyaŋ Ocaje (EEN-yawn oh-CHAW-zhay) is Dakota for 'quartzite' or 'bedrock.' (Thank you to Dakota Language Educator Wambdi Wapaha for his translation.) The outcroppings of pink and red Sioux Quartzite at the monument provide a glimpse of the 4,000+ feet of rock underneath the ground.
