Black and white modern-day photograph of a statue with a Civil War soldier standing while leaning his hands on his musket.
This is the statue at the top of the 121st New York Infantry Monument at Little Round Top on the Gettysburg Battlefield. Commanded by Colonel Emory Upton, the 121st New York arrived on the field in the evening of July 2, 1863. It held this position on the north face of Little Round Top for the duration of the battle. The monument was dedicated in 1889 and bears a soldier at rest as well as a base-relief of Colonel Upton.
