Rebuild Hale o Keawe Scale Model at Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park in Spring 2010
The Hale o Keawe Scale model is constructed of natural materials that are mostly gathered locally, including hard wood timbers, ti leaf thatch and fern trim for the amau. The structure is a half sized scale model of the Hale o Keawe Temple. The Hale o Keawe Temple is the most prominent cultural resource within the park. Due to the restricted access to the temple, the scale model provides a visual and tangible experience to visitors. Visitors can see up close, the traditional construction materials and techniques that were employed in building the actual temple.
