Lower River Battery at Fort Donelson National Battlefield in April 2005
Lower River Battery is located north of Fort Donelson on the bluffs of the Cumberland River. It comprises 7 horseshoe-shaped earth parapets that measure 6-10' tall that are being reconstructed with wood revetments and concrete sandbags. It is associated with the 1862 Battle of Fort Donelson and defines tactics and technology characteristic of Civil War battles. || Lower River Battery is significant at the national level under NR Criteria A, C, & D.
