Six Civil War Veterans from the Vermont Cavalry in Front of a Building
LIBI_00019_00265; This item is an original silver gelatin photographic postcard of Vermont Cavalry veterans of the Civil War standing in front of a building. The postcard is 3 3/8 x 5 3/8" and commissioned in circa 1913 by A. L. Cheney of Morrisville, Vermont. On the front bottom, numbers 1-6 are handwritten below the image of each of the subjects.On the verso, a handwritten notation reads: "1. Thos. C. Cheney/Speaker of the Vt. House of Representatives 1906-1910. Clerk of same 1894-1906/2. Harry Gould/Nephew of Maj. Gould. Member of Vt. House 1908-1910. Died Mar. 1916./3. Capt. Edward F. Griswold, Co. F, 11th Vt. Captured June 23/64 on [illegible word] R.R. near Petersburg. Confined in Libby Prison. Has given his pension for year to R.E. Lee [illegible word], Richmond, in aid of some poor confederate./4. Maj. Chas. G. Gould, Co. H, 5th Vt. First man of 6th Corps over the Confederate works at Petersburg Apr. 2/65. Had a bayonet driven into his mouth this side of his face and another one into his spin
