Silver Moon Gorget Etched with Pheasant Decoration
Moon, concave engraved silver disk with maker's mark "NR" and two buttons on either side near the top center of the disk. The buttons have eye holes on the back to attach to a chain or fastener. The disk has an engraved image of a bird in its center. The touch mark, located in the top center of the moon is from Narcisse Roy who worked as a Montreal silversmith between the 1790s and 1814. The bird in the center resembles a pheasant with long, decorative wing and tail feathers. The bird has a crest of feathers on its head and is looking behind him. There are two decorative areas around the circumference of the moon, which are raised and the outermost area around the circumference of the moon is flat. The decorative rings also function to strengthen the piece visually and physically.
