Each year on the Saturday closest to the date of the both the battle at Big Hole and at Bear Paw, the Nez Perce host ceremonies at the respective Battlefields. At times, those ceremonies may include what is known as a “rider less” horse ceremony. The horses are provided and presented by the Nez Perce Appaloosa Horse Club. This picture is an example of one of the horses involved in the ceremony.
