The moth is dark color, appears to be black or very dark brown. The body is large with a few horizontal dark lines with very little white spotting. The upper set of wings are dark with variations of lighter browns or white that give the wings a textured appearance. The lower wings are dark on the edges with a lighter vertical line then goes back to a dark/light coloration near the body.
Common. Over state; ranges over eastern half of U.S.; the adults active May-August. Larvae feed on winterberry holly.
