Lorelei and Ranger
painting of a large and small boat near a pier
Paint is strong. Like the forces of nature, art has contoured the landscape of our view of the world. Art has brought focus and perspective to the power and fragility of our planet and the creatures that inhabit it. Working in nature requires specific skills and tools. Art intensifies nature and nature intensifies the creative experience. I work out of a backpack painting on canvas with acrylic paints. Painting provides me with an opportunity to slow my pace and absorb the environment I am in. My residencies have profoundly affected who I am and how I work. Turning off the clutter and noise of urban life has allowed me to tap into my soul in degrees I never achieved before. Presenting my work to visitors and park personnel allows me to share the excitement of working in nature. It is my hope I have inspired them to do the same. I see my role as an Ambassador of Art while in residency, and as an Ambassador of our Parks when back at home.
