Alexander Hamilton fought in the American War for Independence. He arrived in Philadelphia in 1787 ready to unite the 13 independent states to form one nation—the United States of America. Later, as the first Secretary of Treasury, Hamilton dreamed of creating a Bank of the United States to secure the nation's finances and wealth.
