Sir:
July 21, 1915, Mittie Moore, now of Roswell, N. Mex., made homestead entry Roswell 032454, for the W½ Sec. 17 T. 14 S, R 24 E., N.M.P.M.; and November 13, 1917, an application to contest was filed against this entry, which was withdrawn December 10, 1917; final proof was submitted on the claim October 14, 1919; January 20, 1920 I made field examination in the case and report the following:
IMPORVEMENTS:
The entrywoman has on the place a habitable shack, built of upright boards stripped, shingle roof, size of house 12x14’ and a porch attached which is 4x10’, a plank floor; fairly well furnished; a small shed; some small farm implements, about one mile of fencing; all improvements, exclusive of cultivation, cost about $300.00.
RESIDENCE:
There are evidences that the homestead shack on this place has been used for a considerable length of time as a residence. The house is yet completely furnished and the furnishing appear much used. Pathways and other marks outside also show that there have been persons about the place a considerable length of time. Entrywoman was not on the place at the time of my investigation. John Carter, of Roswell, N. Mex., whose name is given as a probable witness in a notice of intention to make proof, dated March 12, 1919, was seen and he stated that this entrywoman has put in practically all the time on her homestead since filing on the land. Two or three other negroes with him whose name I did not get, also stated that she had lived there for the greater part of the year during the last 4 or 5
