Three-part illustration showing the origin of pinnacle formations clustered around Tower Fall
First part depicts fifty million year old volcanic rocks criss-crossed by vertical cracks, or joints. Second illustration shows frost wedging, and water erosion rapidly cutting along the joints of this relatively soft rock. Third part shows the progressive erosion eventually isolating tower-like pinnacles of unjointed rock.
