At the top are the tertiary (third-order) consumers are the predators (represented by the Golden eagle and Swainson's hawk) that feed on other predators; Secondary consumers are the predators (represented by weasels and shrews) that eat herbivores; Primary consumers (plant eaters, or herbivores represented by pikas, marmots, ground squirrels, and ptarmigans) convert plant tissue into animal flesh; and the Producers are the green plants at the base of the food pyramid, manufacturing food for the animals of the alpine community
