A statue of a Korean War soldier emerges from behind the shoulder of another statue of a soldier at the Korean War Veterans Memorial.
Visitors to the Korean War Veterans Memorial are confronted with the enduring losses of war as they meet the gazes of the 19 soldiers that stand there, eternally on patrol. By design, at least one of the statues always makes eye contact with visitors, no matter where they stand around the memorial.
