Volunteers practice their roles in a scene where abolitionists confront a local constable looking for a runaway slave. || Cuyahoga Valley National Park interprets Ohio's Underground Railroad heritage because the centerpiece or our park, the Ohio & Erie Canal, was a likely route traveled by runaway slaves. Experience the Underground Railroad, offered each November, places visitors in the role of an escaping slave. The program is part of the National Underground Railway Network to Freedom which recongnizes historic sites, facilities, and programs that have a verifiable association to the Underground Railroad.
