Virginia Kendall State Park Historic District, historic photos of toboggan run at Kendall Lake
U.S. National Park Service
Historic photos of the toboggan run at Kendall Lake in Virginia Kendall Park. See scan of writing on the back of each image for additional details. || Coal industrialist Hayward Kendall willed his private retreat, later named Virginia Kendall Park, to the people of Ohio following his death in 1927. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) built Kendall Lake in 1934-1935 for recreational use. For years, people flocked here for the swimming beach, toboggan run, and ice skating. Today?s visitors come to fish, rent snowshoes and cross-country skis, and enjoy nearby trails. The Virginia Kendall property is now part of Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Ohio, which still operates a Winter Sports Center at Kendall Lake Shelter.
