“Waterloo 9 mo 14th 1852 Dear Brother Richard As Father and Mother have gone to hear Mrs E Oaks Smith, I thought I would improve the time in writing to thee, we did not commence to go to school last Second-day but will certainly go next week. Willie is not going with us but to Frank Hutton again. Susan our girl that had that bad fellon on her finger on his [some one added in pencil above – on her] finger has come back, her finger which is her fore one on her right hand is perfectly Straight, I went to Mr Lamberts the (boss spinners of the Woollen Factory) to tea this afternoon there were several other girls besides myself there, we enjoyed ourselves very much indeed and returned home about half past six very much pleased with our visit Mary Marcella Eveline and myself intend going out to Cousin Emaline Bacons to spend the day tomorrow Father is going to take us as far as the toll-gate and we can walk the rest of the way it is but a pleasant walk from there. I hope we will enjoy ourselves in our next we will give thee a discription of our visit, Dorcas and [Thom] Purdie have been traveling this three weeks but are expected home tomorrow, I must now close so Good bye from thy Affectionate Sister Sarah M Hunt” "Dear Brother I am sorry that this week has passed and I have not recieced or dispatched a letter but we have been very busy all this week we have got our old Cook Susan back and her finger is a great deal better but she can-not bend it much yet or I dont believe she ever will Aunt Margaret Pryor & Uncle George are here they came on Seconday and stayed until Third Day Afternoon they are looking for a house here they can-not bear the idea of staying out there all Winter. if thee wishes to write to James Best direct thy letters to John Best Lockport Michigan, I believe but I guess thee will not want to write before thee recieves another letter from us and then I will try to find out whether it is Michigan or Ohio Mary Abbey says that I must give her love to thee and say that thee must write to her. Mrs. Rose from New-York was here the other night and delivered a lecture at Concert Hall Father and Mother thought her very interesting speaker – John Laing shot Aunt Eliza's dog the other day they thought he was going mad. We had a call the other day from Emmaline Bacon Emma Bacon Benjamin & Thaddeus. The Syracuse Convention had ended and I suppose they had a great time. We are Cutting the corn in the field next to the house I am very glad that we can see the wall once more It is getting pretty late and I must close so farewell thy affectionate sister Mary"
