Monument contributes to the national significance of the park under NR Criterion A because it represents the national movement among Federal Civil War veterans to commemorate the site of Andersonville Prison by erecting state monuments.
West Bronze Plaque
U.S. National Park Service
Barre (Vt.) granite monument in the form of a triumphal arch set on a stepped podium with an 8' bronze sculpture of a Union soldier on the top. Interior of arch faced with Georgia and Italian marble. Base measures 20' square; overall height is 35'.
