R.P. Hunt Esq.
My dear Sir
I have your favor of yesterday (Thursday) and cannot understand why the 14 bales Cotton which left here on Monday should not have reached you –Trust they have ere this – I have a broker on the lookout for another lot and shall buy between this and [Tues?]day – My idea is that Cotton is to go a little lower for a time and then go up again – Should the quality that we want touch 9 cents I should advise buying all we want –
Our firm would prefer making an arrangement for manufacturing at a certain price, and I suppose we could do so from the fact that Mr [illegible] told me Mr McLaren would manufacture for him in [case?]"
Page 2:
"he took the mill for 1 7/8 cts per yard including every thing excepting Fuel & Oil and there he thought would not exceed 1/8 l bringing the price of both to 2 [cents] which is about what you said the cost had been vis 2 4/100 -
If Mr McLaren would do this do you not think it will be well If not or you cannot arrange it – An inventory had better be taken at once carefully and we will rely upon your looking to it, and sending us a copy –It is quite probable that Mr McLaren would make more savings in one way and another if he did it by contract The first six bales are received this morning (but we have no Invoice) and look very well - We think the goods are right and the only thing is"
Page 3:
" to get them at the lowest price – I hope to write you on Monday with an Invoice of Cotton bought at 10 [cents] Yours truly J W Patterson the statement of your property I have under lock & key”
