Self-Alarming Pocket Dosimeter (circa 1940s)

A red box with a black label that reads, "AUTOMATIC ALARM DOSIMETER 20mR MONITOR PTW-TOTAL 6119", "RADIOACTIVITY WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY INDICATED BY AUDIBLE ALARM WHEN CUMULATIVE DOSE REACHES 20 mR". This is followed by operating instructions. There is an orange label on the bottom that reads "NUCLEAR ASSOCIATES INC. WESTBURY, NEW YORK".

This device is a small dosimeter worn in the shirt pocket of employees while they worked in radiologically contaminated areas. It measures beta and gamma radiation. An audible signal sounds to alert the wearer when the ambient radiation reaches dangerous levels.
