Hot Springs wildfire, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, summer 2004
These photos display various views of the Hot Springs Fire on the east Kern Plateau in the wilderness of Sequoia National Park. This wildfire, started by lightning on August 12, 2004, and declared out on October 18, 2004, burned approximately 332 acres. Fire was in Jeffrey Pine, Western White Pine, and Montane Chaparral fuel types, and fire behavior was predominantly limited to smoldering and creeping. On several days small runs were observed in montane chaparral. Hot Springs Fire was monitored on the ground by Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks fire monitors for a period of three weeks, and for the remainder was monitored by helicopter aerial recon.
