George Armstrong Custer in Civilian Dress with Three Women
LIBI_00019_00276; This item is an original tintype of George A. Custer in civilian dress and 3 women. The collodion emulsion image is of Custer in standing view is 4 3/8 x 6 3/4" and mounted in the original pink paper folder. The image was produced circa 1875 by Edward M. Estabrooke of New York City. On the front, a typed notation reads, "Estabrooke, 31 Union Square." On the verso, a handwritten notation in pencil reads, "For Libbie dear, Gen. Custer & his [illegible words] N.Y. [illegible words] May 8th, 1875."Note: "Pkg 4" handwritten on verso. Photograph reprinted in "Custer in Photographs" by D.
