<em>HMS Fowey</em> Deadeye
A deadeye was used to run rigging on traditional sailing ships. Archeologists use these objects to date and identify shipwrecks. For instance, a variety of deadeyes found on a wreck site can indicate multiple masts, which can be an important clue to the identity of the ship.
