February 23, 1977 Mr. Gray Evans P. O. Drawer B Greenwood, Mississippi 38930 Dear Mr. Evans: We are pleased to inform you that the audio station for the Mississippi Monument ahs been installed. It consists of a very attractive and durable bronze anodized aluminum structure containing a message repeater and speaker. Photographs of the monument and audio station are enclosed, as well as a script of the narration of the story of Barksdale’s Mississippians at Gettysburg on July 2, 1863. You will recall that in our initial recommendation for the audio station, we referred to construction of a fieldstone enclosure. In our planning for this installation, it was recommended that we not construct such a structure for the audio units inasmuch as it would tend to distract attention from the monument. In lieu of the fieldstone work, our design people came up with an innovative design that is simple, functional, attractive, and is in harmony with the monument. On behalf of the National Park Service, we extend our sincere appreciation of the donated funds form the Mississippi Gettysburg Commission for this valued addition to the monument and the Gettysburg National Military Park. As of this date, there is $721.51 remaining in the Mississippi Monument Account (#4400-7511-601-2600). With your kind permission, we would like to use the remaining fund towards construction of historic worm fencing in the fields in front of the monument. If this is agreeable, we could accomplish about 350 feet of fencing.
