The monument contributes to the national significance of the park under NR Criterion A because it represents the national movement among Federal Civil War veterans to commemorate the site of Andersonville Prison by erecting state monuments.

Semicircular composition with a tapering granite pedestal at the center supporting an 8' bronze figure of a soldier. Benches curve out from the pedestal enclosing a granite floor and terminating in granite slabs. 24' 8" wide x 12' 4" deep x 16' high.
