On the left side of the image there is a description, “This beautiful tree covered with exquisite yellow blossoms is a common sight, lining the avenues of Honolulu. The passer-by is literally ‘showered’ with the fragrant leaves as he goes in front of the lovely bungalows on the shores of Waikiki or the Valley of Manoa.” Also printed along the left edge of the image is “51/B Published by Hawaii and South Seas Curio Co., Honolulu.” Below “Card” is the subtitle “Address Only on This Side.” There is no address written. The image is a black and white sketch of a large hill or mountain that slopes until it reaches the water, forming a shoreline. At the top of the mountain, in the upper right corner, a cloud rises up from a split in the landscape. From this point, lava pours down the landscape, flowing down the slope before reaching a road and village. Where the lava meets the sea, a large plume of steam rises. The road continued through the village and up around the mountain. There are ships along the coast. Near the lower left of the drawing, along the coast, are three groups of people, including an X to mark the location of the artist. A note near the point where the lava flows from reads, "15 miles to source." A label in the lower right corner reads, "Destruction of Hoʻōpūloa, Hawaiʻi, 6:21 AM - April 18, 1926, sketched by Thomas Boles 'on the spot'." At the bottom center of the photo, a caption reads, "Front of lava: 50' high, 1500' wide." The road is labeled with the word "road," and writing in the water reads, "Hoʻōpūlo
