LIBI_00019_00225; This item is an albumen carte-de-visite (card-mounted photograph) of Theodore J. Holmes (Captain and Chaplain). The bust view photograph is 2 1/2 x 4" mounted and was produced circa 1865 by D.S. De Lamater of Hartford, Connecticut. Holmes was the chaplain of the 1st Connecticut Cavalry, Custer's first command. On the verso, handwritten notations in brown ink read, "Theodore J. Holmes/Chaplain/1st Conn. Cav./East Hartford/Conn." The photographer's stamp is printed in black.
