The Soliders¿ National Cemetery at Gettysburg National Military Park in January 2008
The Soliders¿ National Cemetery at Gettysburg is a unique resource. It was the first "National" cemetery that was, in fact, a federal effort of the local citizenry and the states to inter and memorials their dead. It¿s design was a conscious, deliberate aesthetic effort that went beyond simple linear burials. The Cemetery was constructed on a significant portion of the battlefield. The Cemetery therefore is associated with events that have made a significant contribution to the broad patterns of our history as a country.
