The Stamp Act required that all printed matter such as newspapers, pamphlets, playing cards, and most commercial and legal documents bear such a stamp, which had to be purchased from the British government.
No specimen actually used of this tax stamp is known to exist. Only a handful of proofs and die trials survive.; Abbr=AVA
