Tree or Octopus?

Twisted tree branches and roots twist and curl in every direction above lichen-covered rock.

A challenging landscape can be shaped by vegetation, but vegetation can also be shaped by the landscape. As this particular juniper jams it roots downward in search of water and nutrients, the rest of the tree assumes the pattern of the roots.
