At the center of this monument is a metal sculpture surrounded on three sides by a "Wall of Honor," listing the names of 209,145 United Colored Troops on 166 burnished stainless steel plaques arranged by regiment. The plaques on this record memorialize the 8th Regiment, including the 8th Regiment, United States Colored Heavy Artillery (plaques A18, A19); and 8th Regiment, United States Colored Infantry (plaques A19, A20).
