Smith" with handwritten and typewritten inscription mounted on cardboard, of the ruins of Fort C. F. Smith, some walls, and a man holding a brick comprise this item. The soldiers made sundried bricks, and of these the walls of the fort were built. The walls were made about three thick at the base. The fort was for guarding the Bozeman Trail. This pioneer route of travel passed along the west side of the walls. Fort permanently vacated in September, 1868 after two years of constant warfare against it by Northern Cheyenne Indians, aided by Oglala Sioux Indians, this brick taken from the ruins on September 12 , 1933, sixty five years after the soldiers had left there."
