Thanks for verses; reference to George Washington’s occupancy of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's residence [Vassall-Craigie-Longfellow House].
[pencil annotation, HWLD hand:] Bought by H.W.L. Dana, Oct, 1947, from Heise for $1.00
Boston 7 May 1856.
Dear Sir,
I am very much obliged to you for the copy of your spirited verses, which I received yesterday & for the very good company in which you place me in one of them. I borrowed your expression “doubly immortal,” in my allusion last Evening to Washington’s residence in Professor Longfellow’s [p. 2] residence.
