Monument contributes to the national significance of the park under NR Criterion A because it represents the national movement among Federal Civil War veterans to commemorate the site of Andersonville Prison by erecting state monuments.
West Inscription
U.S. National Park Service
Of Barre granite, monument consists of a slender obelisk rising from a cubic pedestal supported by a three-step base. Pedestal is quarry-faced with inset smooth inscribed panel. Measuring 12' 4" square at the base, the monument's height is 48' 6".
