Interior view of the Kennedy Farm House.
Interior view of the Kennedy Farm House.
John Brown is depicted around a table with members of his group of followers (raiders). Brown referred to these men who supported his cause to end slavery as the "Provisional Army of the United States. Annie Brown, John Brown's daughter and Martha Brown, Oliver Brown's wife, were also living at the Kennedy Farm to serve as cook and ho8sekeeper to alleviate suspicion of the all male group by neighbors. It appears that either Annie or Martha Brown has sounded an alarm that someone is approaching the house..
There is a full color version of this same scene illustrated by Richard Schlecht in watercolor (IMS # 00212).; Abbr=EX
