Monument material: - The stone work of the memorial to be of
the best quality Vermont Granite in strict conformity to Government
requirements, - all exposed parts of the memorial stone work to be
executed with fine axed finish and the same to be set plumb in beds
of stainless cement. All joints to be raked out to a depth of
three-fourths of an inch and the same securely caulked with lead.
All edges and members of the stone work to be out true and made to
miter. All stone work to be anchored with brass dowels.
Walk materials: The stone for the walk to be of the best quality
slate flagging as approved by the party of the first part and of
color to harmonize with stone and bronze work used in the monument.
This flagging shall be set in integral waterproofed 1:3 mix
Portland cement and sharp, clean river sand, with joints not more
than one inch in width. The same shall be set upon a base of 1:2
:4 mix concrete and shall be bordered with a flush coping of
Vermont Granite set in 1 :3 Portland cement mortar and anchored to
concrete base with brass dowels.
Foundation: The foundation for the memorial to be made of
1: 3 : 5 mix of Portland Cement, Sharp, clean river sand, and crush-
ed stone, designed to give adequate bearing for the memorial and con-
forming to U. S. Government requirements.
Treatment of Site: - The stone fence at the location of the monu-
ment shall be taken down in order to give ample space for monument
and said fence shall be terminated on each side with rubble stone
terminal post constructed of stone identical with that of fence. All
necessary grading and sodding will be done by the party of the second
part after the erection of the memorial.
Installation to be on site on the Gettysburg Military Park located
along the West side of Confederate Avenue facing Round Top near
Government marker describing position of Law’s Brigade and at such
exact position as the Secretary of War and the party of the first part
shall mutually agree.
The party of the second part agrees to supply and submit such
specifications and drawings to the Secretary of War as may be nec-
essary to secure the approval for the proposed memorial.
