Construction of the new monument honoring the soldiers from Indiana who fought here during the battle of Gettysburg is scheduled to begin within the next two weeks, Attorney Thurman M. DeMoss, Franklin, Ind., chairman of the Indiana-Gettysburg Memorial Commission, said today. Codori Memorials of Gettysburg made the basic design for the two-pylon cenotaph to be located in Spangler’s Meadow, near Spangler’s Spring, where the 27th Indiana lost more than 100 men during the battle in July, 1863. All told, Indiana units lost 552 men in the fighting here. The marker will be similar to the artist’s conception, with the exception of the hedge, which will not be placed about the $17,000 marker.
