R.P. Hunt Esq.
Dear Sir
We duly received your favor of the 27th and regretted exceedingly to learn of the disasters to your property by the Tornado. We had already heard of the destruction to our mutual friends Mynderse' house It is certainly fearful to think of the power of the elements in [nature?] – We suppose this must add very much to your cares this summer - We see by your letter that the Cotton Company is arranged and agreeably to Mr Sweet’s order we bought yesterday 34 bales Cotton (of rather better qulaity than the last previous purchased) at 11 ½ cents There have been heavy speculations the past week and prices have gone up full a ½ cent per H - The supply in Europe seems to do less than was supposed – We are glad to learn that Mr" Page 2:
"Fatsinger and yourself are trustees, and it is the fact of your connection with the matter that draws us into it – The [need?] having the selling of the goods would not induce us to be interested – The writer has a very good impression of Mr Sweet from his interview with him here last winter –
We should not be inclined to go much above our previous amount but would increase it say to $3000 adding $500 to the amount named in our last – This is provided there is no liability beyond our subscription and the company will increase the machinery to 100 looms and preparation sufficient for the same with change of boilers so that goods may be made as favorably as at other steam Mills – We think this is decidedly for the interests of every body holding stock in the Mill –
The writer goes to Boston this evening for a few days as he has not been there for more than six months – He will then ascertain about the right man to go up to Waterloo to consult with you as to the alterations and"

"additions – Will you write to him there your wishes in regard to the same and if you decide to have him send a man if the right one can be found We can arrange it - You will understand it is not to send a man to make the improvements, but to suggest them and consult with you about them – It might be that he would be the man to superintend there if you wish – Practical and sound knowledge is wanted in such a case and don’t believe in theories only – We want to start right and get credit and money.
We have sold all the goods up to 336 the last received – You say 12 bales sent on the 24th by Boat are the last – Please give us an Invoice We will give you our sales as soon as this Invoice is received and then the business can be settled without a days delay –
Hoping you may be favored in weather &c to make your repairs upon the farm and soon see yourself to rights again
We remain very truly Yours
Almy Patterson & Co.”
