NELSON, WILLIAM HENRY. Yosemite Nat'l Park. November 23, 1951. Born July 21, 1873 at Merced Falls, Calif. and still living at Mariposa, Calif. Was a popular old-time ranger in Yosemite, from June 1, 1917 to November 30, 1945. He conducted many celebrities on High Sierra pack trips; was closely associated with Stephen T. Mather, and was later in charge of Yosemite Valley Campgrounds which he administered with the aid of his famous white horse Shiek". Biographical reference: Albright and Taylor's Oh Ranger."
