Early Signage on the Bathhouses in the 1930s
The word "Ozark" on the side of a white building announces the name of one of the bathhouses in the row.
Bathhouse Row. Up until the 1930s, the role of signs along Bathhouse Row was to identify each bathhouse and advertise their facilities. The signs were minimal, and most were on the bathhouses themselves. With the increase in automobile traffic in the 1930s and the development of the national park, the need for more diverse signage increased. Today, only the signs on the side of the bathhouses contribute to the significance of the historic landscape.
