The lower part of the stone reads "Here lies the body of Lieut. Thomas McCollough, belonging to Col. Campbell's Regiment Virginians who lost his life in and for the honorable just and virtuous cause of liberty at the defeating Col. Fagerson's infamous Company of bandity. Kings Mountain, Oct. 7. 1780."
