Mr. Thomas Harrison, Park Historian
Gettysburg Battlefield
Gettysburg, Pa.
Dear Sir:
I have just noted an article in a newspaper where members of the Indiana Battlefield Commission were in Gettysburg of recent date discussing with you and National Park Superintendent, George Emery, a possible sight for an Indiana Monument to be placed on Gettysburg Battlefield. In that article it stated that Indiana along with Tennessee, Louisiana, and Mississippi are the only remaining states without a monument on the field.
I was at Gettysburg for two or three days a few years ago and made many pictures and slides of various monuments and other things pertaining to the battlefield. I have in my slide file a picture of a monument that I think that I took on the Battlefield of Gettysburg which bears the inscription “Indiana”. Am I correct, or is the newspaper correct where it states that Indiana does not have a monument on the battlefield?
I would appreciate your courtesy in writing me concerning this matter at your earliest convenience.
Yours very truly,
