Page 1: “7th mo 28th 52 Dear Brother It is again Fourth-day and no letter yet dispatched to thee but thee must excuse us for we are so busy. Aunt Ann Uncle Sam Sue and Aunt Catharine arrived last sixth-day. put the boys, in the Country and Mary and Willie in West-chester, so the house is shut up. They have all gone out to Stacy’s (near Geneva) with Father to see a Reaping Machine. Well cousin Lizzie was married last night. I suppose there were about forty present, Willie to. he thought it was very nice, and wants to go to another Wedding. They will miss her very much. They have given up going to the White Mountains on account of the health of Burroughs Partner. They start for Syracuse this morning. Cousin Mary looked very lonely with-out him [Jim?] and I suppose he is with-out her. thee must not think we forgot thee for they all wished thee could have been there. Cousin Lizzie is going to send thee a bag of cake and a card do not give it all away but save some for thy self. Thos. Mellor is very kind, is he not. they recieved a note saying they could not very well leave" Page 2: "home very well at [excuse two very wells – inserted] present. But he sent her a beautiful port. Folio. She has a great many beautiful presents. Willie Has a new pair of white pantaloons and a green [cravat?] when he get them on he thinks he is some-body. he went to Geneva the other day with Father Mother and Aunt Mary Ann MClintock. Aunty – bought some pine Apples for the wedding and when he went to take them out he says ‘Mary I had a great mind to slip one of those into his pocket they looked so good The baby grows very fast and fat. I wish we could take him to have his likeness for thee, I want Father to get us each a Gold Medallion with Father & Mother in thine and mine. and Willie & Jane in Sate’s but I do not think he will. Has thee heard any-thing about Joshua Parish’s death I and Catharine had a letter from Uncle George saying so was he a brother to [Delwine?] Parish? I suppose Willie Mellor is still thy bed fellow and you are as good friends as ever. Does thee remember the night we went to see the Panorama. Father is very busy indeed just now with his harvesting. I believe they are cutting wheat to-day I suppose you have cut yours long ago” Page 3: [ 2/3 of page missing] “teaches in the chair shop across teh road from the Presbyterian Church. Moses Allen has given up his Store on account of his health and Jim Webster took it but I believe he failed. Aunt Ann says Sammie wrote to thee I suppose thee was very glad to hear from him. Does thee know who whispered in the bed-room? Dont they allow you to whisper after you got to bed It has been quite cool here for a few days allmost cold in the mornings Sarah & Francis Abbey have had two letters from California written a month. Richard says" Continued on edge and top of Page 1: "Aunt Eliza is moving. [illegible] went off without telling them anything about it, in the night. I will send all of their love’s for I know they would wish me to if at home. Georgie sets here laughing Mary Abbey says dont forget to send her love. well I have written a long letter and dinner is nearly ready please write soon with much love thy sister Mary” On edge of Page 2: "kitchen & parlor. A fine fine parlor they must have wont thee think. On back of Page 3: "Richard Care of Wm [incomplete due to missing part of page]" "[note in pencil] We just received a very interesting letter from thee farewell [Mary?]"
