LIBI_00019_00495; This item is an original albumen photograph of a group of 9 people in front General George A. Custer's headquarters at the 7th Cavalry camp near Ft. Hayes, Kansas. The photograph is 6 x 8 1/8" (8" x 9 7/8" mounted). As noted on page 83 of D. Mark Katz's book, the image was produced in 1869 and is attributed to W.J. Phillips of Preston, Missouri. Foxing is evident on the front of the image. Katz identifies the subjects in the photograph, from left to right, as: Dr. Dunbar, Mrs. Elizabeth B. Custer, Mr. J.R. Young (of the New York Tribune), Captain Thomas B. Weir, Mrs. Nettie Smith, Lieutenant Colonel George A. Custer, Mr. Lamborn (secretary of the Union Pacific Railroad), Mrs. Donald McIntosh and Lieutenant Francis M. Gibson. On the front, a handwritten notation reads: "A. [illegible word] tent/B.
