A three-lobed Sassafras leaf in the deep orange phase of it's Fall color backlit by the sun with the shadow of a branch behind it projected onto the leaf, with green leaves and branches behind it.
Sassafras leaves are one of the longer-lasting Fall color trees at Little River Canyon National Preserve - their one, two, or three-lobed leaves begin turning yellow in early Fall, then become orange and finally a brilliant red.
