“Waterloo 1st mo 31st 1854
My Dear Brother Richard,
Thy interesting letter was received this afternoon and as it is our day for writing I must do so. That letter which thee mentions was written First day but Father did not see Burroughs and forgot to mail it in Second day. Who are to be your lecturer’s next week? I am afraid I shall not get to Syracuse this winter although I am anxious to go but will ‘hope’ I think it would be very nice to go down and return with Cousin Lizzie Cousin sarah has said nothing about it for a few days though she seems to want to go. I should like to be their during some of the lectures but I must not fill my sheet with this subject. Willie was very much pleased with his letter. Father has not killed any of the chickens. I think that we have very little snow for this winter we went out in the sleigh yesterday and this morning but this afternoon it was so far gone that we had to come home in the buggy. I believe Uncle George and Aunt Margaret are going to Skaneateles to spend a week or two with Lydia and Hannah Fuller and to Auburn to make visit to [Letchunts?] I suppose they will be gone two or three weeks. Georgie and Willie are much better I have a bad headache so I will close write soon. With love I remain as ever thy affectionate sister
Mary M Hunt”
“Dear Brother Richard Thee will please excuse us for not writing to thee before for the letter has been standing for me, I could not very well write last evening as I had some sewing to do but tonight I will write if but a little, well, today is the 2 d of second month and yet not enough sleighing to hardly mention in a few day will be St Valentines day how many Valentines does thee expect to send this year? I do not know whether I shall send any or not but I guess I shall send one or two, so cousin Lizzie is coming out next week now thee will miss her will thee not when she comes. Little Georgie’s face is entirely well only the scars left but these the Doctor thinks will pass off in time, but thinks the scar from his burn will remain, his neck is now entirely well Willie is better also and we are in hopes he will flesh up again soon, Jennie remains well & fat as ever Father and Willie went to the Fair today it is decided to have next Fall’s Fair at Seneca Falls as we have had it here three years. I believe Willie sets by me & is agoing to tell me about it, he says Joe Wright had his Shanghae Oxen at the Fair, but did not take premiums on them, he had some very nice fat cattle there, Jedediah VanHouten and Joseph [Medkin] and Father each took a cow up there but I do not know whether they got a premium or not, Joel Bacon got one on the same old cow again today that has had one every year I believe, the first year Thadious took it the next Mr Bacon this year Frank. Mother sent some Butter up to the Fair and got a premium on it now much I do not know for Father will not tell. I must close I think as I have some [ ] to do before I go to bed. So Good bye from thy very aff
sister Sallie
PS Aunt Margaret & Uncle George are here they together with Father Mother and the children send their love to Cousins Lizzie Burroughs and Adaline as thyself.”
