Photograph of pahoehoe. Pahoehoe is a type of lava commonly found in effusive, basaltic lava flows. The Hawaiian term, “pahoehoe,” describes the ropy appearance of the lava. As shown here, the lava flows around Vulcan Volcano contain pahoehoe.
